A crescendo in reverse ahead of 2019 ICC World Cup

After every ICC World Cup PCB gets a wake-up call to be vigilant for the next event. This has been happening for a couple of decades. It seems that its going to happen again after the 2019 World Cup.

Two years ago when the green shirts lifted the Champions Trophy a new hope was rekindled. Critics who were circumspect of Sarfraz Ahmed taking on the captaincy were silenced. But the roller-coaster ride for Pakistan cricket never stopped. Consistency has been the major issue for most of the players, especially for the batting order.

Lack of professionalism always lets the team down. Pakistan needs to be a professional unit. Cricket and more cricket is needed to lift the overall standards of the game in the country. PSL turns out to be a catalyst in putting things on the right track. The success of HBL PSL 2019 was supposed to build a winning momentum for the team in the series against Australia. But half the team was rested. The results were disappointing but not unexpected. Despite all the preparations and high aims for the world cup, it is nothing less than a wonder how we manage to play the crescendo in reverse.

But good things are also happening for Pakistan cricket. Sri Lanka has agreed to play two test matches in Lahore and Karachi for the three year long ICC Test Championship. Let’s keep the fingers crossed.
